After an excited 14-13 win over the Clark Cougars to open up their season last week, Gordon College Women's Lacrosse traveled to Paxton, Massachusetts to battle the Anna Maria Amcats in a non-conference contest where the Fighting Scots made it two in a row with a 10-4 win tonight.
For the Scots, rookie
Brooke Roberti led the way with three goals and one assist,
Kaitlyn Mini added two goals and as many assists, while
Hailey Beling collected three goals on three shots taken. Meanwhile,
Emma Darling scooped up four ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers the victory.
Meanwhile, Anna Maria was guided by
Riley Cote and
Riley Michaud who each had a goal and an assist in the effort.
How It Happened
- The Scots quickly found themselves in the lead after Roberti and Beling each found the back of the net within the first two minutes of the game to put Gordon up, 2-0. Beling rattled home another two minutes later before Caroline Piorkowski sent one flying to widen the gap to four goals. Anna Maria stopped the bleeding with 6:47 on the clock with a goal of their own to break up the Scots' scoring streak and bring the score to 4-1 in favor of Gordon after one quarter of action.
- Both sides tallied one score each in the second frame with the Scots holding the 5-2 lead at halftime.
- All four goals in the third from each team came by way of a free position shot, with Gordon leading the way, outscoring their counterparts, 3-1 to maintain the upper hand heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
- Mini and Roberti each netted one more goal in the fourth and once again the Scots' defense held strong to limit Anna Maria to one goal as the blue and white secured the 10-4 win.
