After starting their season off with two wins on the road, Gordon College Women's Lacrosse ventured to Standish, Maine to face the St. Joseph's Monks in a non-Conference battle where the Monks halted the Fighting Scots' win streak as Gordon ultimately fell to their hosts, 17-5.
For the Scots,
Kaitlyn Mini and
Hailey Beling net a pair of goals a piece while
Mikayla Lecci chipped in a goal in the effort.
The Monks were led by
Lydia Dexter who booked a game-high seven goals and six ground balls, followed byÂ
Carson Battaglia andÂ
Bridget Collins who added a trio of goals each.Â
How It Happened
- The Scots were able to hold St. Joseph's to one goal in the first five minutes, but the Monks broke it open in the remaining minutes of the first quarter to head into the second frame, 8-0.Â
- Next, the Monks added one to their tally right away, but Gordon's Beling retaliated with a goal of her own to get the Scots on the board at the 11:25 mark to bring the score to 1-9, however, just two seconds later the Monks were able to get their goal back to break double digits. After a few minutes of scoreless action, Lecci doubled the Scots' goals to end the first half, 2-10.Â
- Just 35 seconds after the break, the Monks tacked on another goal to their score before going ahead 14-2 at the end of the third.Â
- Although St. Joseph's added a trio of goals in the opening five minutes of the final frame, the Fighting Scots got hot as Mini opened up the floodgates for her squad with a free position goal with 7:54 remaining. Mini went on to net back to back goals before Beling took advantage of a man-up situation to score with 3:23 remaining, but it wasn't enough as the Scots took the eventual 5-17 loss.
