Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Colonels Barely Escape Scots In CCC Opener

Gordon College Men's Lacrosse commenced Conference play this afternoon as they hosted the Curry College Colonels for their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) battle of the season where the Fighting Scots battled back in the fourth quarter to even out the score at 5-5 before the Colonels net back-to-back goals, sealing the narrow 7-5 win.

Five Scots were able to find the back of the net this afternoon, each adding one goal towards Gordon's tally, while Aidan Walsh did his job in the face off circle, going 10 for 16 in face offs.

The Colonels were guided by Nick Perfetuo and Connor Bryant who net a pair of goals each.

How It Happened
  • Both teams ping-ponged possession before Curry took advantage of a man-up situation to be the first to get on the board with 6:25 on the clock. However, the Scots immediately retaliated just 21 seconds later with a goal from Ryan Stephen Long to knot it up at 1-1.
  • In the second frame, the Colonels broke the tie with a goal at the 9:11 mark before taking a two-goal lead with 4:10 remaining while holding the Scots to head into the second half, 3-1.
  • After the break, Gordon was quick to close the gap as Jackson Wright snuck around to the front of the net to book his 15th goal of the season and bring the Scots within one (2-3). But Curry swiftly regained their momentum, grabbing a pair of goals in the remaining minutes of the third to enter the final frame, 5-2.
  • Almost four minutes into the last 15, Marco Fernandez fed Noah Theis who laced one past the Colonels' keeper just 25 ticks before Fernandez net a goal of his own to make it a one-goal game (4-5) with 10:40 to go. With 4:28 on the clock, John Flemmi's net pounding paid off as the junior sent an electrifying pulse throughout the stands as the sharp-shooter found the back of the net to tie it up at five-all. However, the Colonels were able to reclaim their edge as it came down to the wire with 2:26 remaining, Curry's Bryant scored his second tally of the game. Just under a minute later, the Colonels grabbed another goal to lock in the 7-5 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Jackson Wright has found the back of the net in all six of the Scots' games so far.
  • The Fighting Scots take a break from CCC action as they face Plymouth State on their home turf on Wednesday, March 22 at 7 p.m.
