Scots Open Up The Week With 13-10 Victory Over Pilgrims

Gordon College Women's Lacrosse invited the New England College (NEC) Pilgrims to the Brigham Athletic Complex for a non-Conference battle where the Fighting Scots dominated the turf to seal their third win in a row, 13-10.

Kaitlyn Mini paced the Scots to victory tonight with five goals followed by Brooke Roberti who net two goals. Meanwhile, Emma Darling contributed on the defensive end with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

For the Pilgrims, Jackie Nee led her squad with four goals, while Nathalie Antigua added a trio of goals to NEC's tally.

How It Happened
  • Gordon came out firing as Mini and Mikayla Lecci scored back to back to open up the contest with a quick 2-0 advantage. However, NEC was able to tie it up at the 7:30 mark but Mini net her second tally of the game to regain the edge at the end of the first (3-2).
  • Becca Rhoda kept the momentum going for the Fighting Scots with a goal just under a minute after the whistle blew before freshman Lily Bailey found the back of the net for the first time in collegiate career to widen the gap, 5-2. The Pilgrims were able to answer back with a goal, however the Scots continued to shine offensively, booking a trio of goals in the remaining seven minutes to head into the next frame, 8-3.
  • The Scots continued their streak of scoring first as Roberti found the back of the net at the 10:11 mark but NEC was able to score twice to barely shrink their deficit before Gordon snuck one behind NEC's keeper to make it 10-5.
  • In the final frame, the Fighting Scots continued to pour it on, with a duo of goals to lengthen their lead to seven (12-5). However, NEC turned it up offensively as the Pilgrims were able to book four goals in a row before the Scots were able to score again with 2:02 remaining in regulation (13-9). The Pilgrims attempted to claw their way back with another goal with just over a minute left but the Fighting Scots stayed locked in on defense to secure the 13-10 win.
