Lions Squeeze Past Scots In Mid-Week Action

Gordon College Women's Lacrosse traveled into Boston this evening to face the Emerson College Lions at Rotch Field where the Fighting Scots ultimately fell to their hosts, 14-16.

Caroline Piorkowski stayed hot offensively for the Scots, scoring five goals while chipping in two assists, meanwhile Kaitlyn Mini and Hailey Beling added a hat trick to Gordon's tally.

The hosts were led by Lauren Longstreet and Callie Krosin who booked four goals each followed by Grace Danehy who found the back of the net three times.

How It Happened
  • The Scots took the offensive charge right off the bat as they net back to back goals in the first five minutes of action but the Lions retaliated with a pair of goals of their own before taking the one goal edge, 3-2 with 5:43 to go in the first. It wasn't until the 1:58 mark where the Fighting Scots evened out the score again thanks to a Piorkowski goal before Mikayla Lecci gave her squad the advantage with 25 ticks left on the clock.
  • The Lions quickly knotted it up at four-all 1:25 minutes into the second frame, but the teams went point-for-point until Emerson grabbed the final edge of the half, 8-7.
  • Emerson took their momentum into the second half, taking their biggest lead of the game (10-7) but the Scots came within one (9-10) after a duo of goals from Beling and Mini. However, the hosts were able to outscore the Scots 4-3 in the remainder of the third to enter the final frame, 14-12.
  • After almost five minutes of scoreless action, the Lions tacked on another goal to their score (15-12). The squads were at a standstill until there was 4:19 remaining in regulation when Emerson grabbed another goal just 25 seconds before the Scots chipped away at their deficit to come within two with 3:07 on the clock. But the Scots' late rally wasn't enough as the Lions took the narrow 16-14 win.
