Scots March Past Colonels For First CCC Win

Gordon College Women's Lacrosse opened up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action today at the Brigham Athletic Complex against the Curry College Colonels where the Fighting Scots pulled away in the second half to earn the 18-10 victory. With the win, the Scots improve to 1-0 in league action and 6-2 on the season.

Kaitlyn Mini led the way with six goals and two assists, Mikayla Lecci added three goals, three helpers, three ground balls, and a pair of caused turnovers, Caroline Piorkowski had two goals and as many assists, while Hailey Beling chipped in a hat trick. Meanwhile, rookie keeper Kayla Davidson recorded 14 saves.

For the Colonels, Chloe Chevrier won nine draw controls and had three goals while Grayson Goolgasian chipped in three goals and two assists. 

How It Happened
  • Gordon rattled home three straight tallies to open up the first quarter before Curry responded with two goals of their own to cut the deficit to one (3-2). The Scots tacked on three more compared to Curry's one to double up the Colonels 6-3 after one. 
  • In the second frame, both sides netted four goals apiece as the blue and white took a 10-7 advantage at halftime. 
  • Abbie Zorrilla got it started in the third with her second tally of the game after winning the opening draw control. Two minutes later, Mini booked her third goal of the day to make it 12-7 in favor of the home team. Each team scored two more times in the third to bring the score to 14-9, Gordon, heading into the final quarter.
  • The Scots welcomed the fourth quarter by firing in four goals before Curry added their final score of the game at the 4:12 mark. As the final horn rang, the Scots were victorious, 18-10.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Kaitlyn Mini tied her career-high with six goals; a feat she hit in the Scots' season opener in February. 
  • Sophomore Mikayla Lecci booked her first career hat trick as a Fighting Scot.
  • Rookie keeper Kayla Davidson's 14 saves was not only a career-high but also marks back to back games with double digit assists. 
  • The Scots return to the Brigham Athletic Complex on Wednesday, March 29 to host Salem State at 4:30 p.m.
