Gordon College Women's Lacrosse took a break from conference play today as they welcomed the Salem State Vikings to the Brigham Athletic Complex where the Vikings edged out the Fighting Scots, 10-9 in a back and fourth battle.Â
Gordon's
Caroline Piorkowski dished out four assists and added one goal,
Kaitlyn Mini netted three goals,
Mikayla Lecci booked two goals, while
Hailey Beling recorded two goals and one assist. Defensively,
Emma Darling wracked up six ground balls and caused as many turnovers.
For the visitors,
Taylor Sujko had three goals and three assists,
Mackenzie Schmink added a hat trick as well, while
Jenna Wells chipped in two goals.Â
How It Happened
- The visitors drew first blood, netting a pair of goals midway through the frame to take the 2-0 advantage. The Scots answered back late in the quarter to lock it up at 2-2 heading into the second.
- Both sides traded shots in the second quarter, with Salem taking the slight lead at halftime, 6-5.
- Coming back from the break, Gordon fired in three goals within a two and a half minute span to flip the script and go on top, 8-6. However, the Vikings got one tally back to make it a one-goal game heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
- Salem opened up the fourth with a two straight goals to regain the upper hand, 9-8 (11:40). Soon after, Gordon's Beling knotted up the score yet again at the 9:02 mark (9-9). However, with 6:19 on the board, the Vikings pulled ahead, 10-9 and played locked down defense to come out with the win over the Scots.

- Caroline Piorkowski had a career-high four assists.
- The Scots return to the Brigham Athletic Complex on Saturday, April 1 to host the Wentworth Leopards at 1 p.m.
