Scots Conquer Vikings, 14-6

Gordon College Baseball ventured over to Salem, Massachusetts this afternoon to square up against the Salem State Vikings for a nine-inning battle where the Fighting Scots dominated the batter's box to best the Vikings, 14-6.

How It Happened
  • Gordon took advantage of their first ups as Ben Chase led the Scots off with a triple to deep center before the senior was able to trot home thanks to a powerful CJ Demers double to put the Scots up on the board after one. The Fighting Scots continued their hitting spree in the top of the third, scoring five runs off of six hits including back to back triples from Hunter Simpson followed by another from Chase to widen their gap to 6-0.
  • However, the Vikings were able to break through offensively in the home half of the third, scoring two runs to shrink their deficit to four but the Scots stayed consistent in the batter's box, tacking on a run in the fourth and fifth inning before Salem doubled their score to four after mustering up two hits to head into the sixth frame, 8-4.
  • The squads were at a standstill until a Viking homer brought the score to 5-8 before the Scots broke open in their final ups, scoring six runs off of six hits topped off by a Jonathan McIntyre triple. Salem was able to add a run to the board but the Scots quickly shut them down to seal the 14-6 win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Scots earned a season-high 22 hits tonight.
  • The Fighting Scots have a quick turnaround as they return to the diamond tomorrow, March 22 when they travel to Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts to compete in a nine-inning game against Mass. Maritime at 4 p.m.
