How It Happened
- David Melendez got it started for the blue and white as the second baseman singled to left field and then quickly found himself on third after a failed pick off attempt a pitch later. Then, with runners on the corners, Hartman began the hit parade with an RBI double before the Fighting Scots erupted for six more runs to lead the Mavericks, 7-0 after one inning of play.
- After crossing the plate once more in the second, Gordon tacked on four more runs in the third, highlighted by a Cody two-run shot over the right field fence to widen the gap to 12-0 after three.
- Working behind a 14-0 advantage, starting right-hander Marzetta fanned a pair of batters in a 1,2,3 fifth inning to continue to keep runners off the bases.
- The Scots got it going again with a two-out rally in the home half of the sixth after C. Demers belted a triple to straight away center to put him 90 feet away from another Gordon tally. A double from Cody and a single from pinch hitter Jacob Blake, allowed the Scots to tack on two more runs, 16-0.
- Then, in the top of the seventh, Gianni Mercurio made his collegiate debut on the rubber and sat the Mavericks down in order to preserve the shutout and end the game early.
