Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Hawks Pull Away In Fourth Quarter

Gordon College Men's Lacrosse hosted the Hawks of Roger Williams tonight at their very own Brigham Athletic Complex where the Fighting Scots battled back and fourth through all four quarters before a Hawk rally in the final frame sealed the 13-9 Conference win for Roger Williams.

Marco Fernandez and Noah Thies paced the Scots with three goals each, while John Flemmi dished out three helpers. Meanwhile, on the defensive end Aidan Walsh and William McCormick rounded up five ground balls each.

Roger was led by Matt Halpin and Kevin Murphy who both recorded a hat trick in the win while Pehrson Szuluk and Ryan Vendetti contributed two tallies as well.

How It Happened
  • The Scots came out firing, netting back to back goals first from Ryan Stephen Long then Jackson Wright to give Gordon the 2-0 edge in just under three minutes of action. However, it wasn't long before the Hawks knotted it up at two-all with 10:24 remaining in the first after a pair of goals of their own. Both squads were able to add another to their tally before ending the first, 3-3.
  • Joel Bean reclaimed the advantage for the Fighting Scots in the second frame as the senior found the back of the net at the 11:38 mark to go up 4-3, but the Hawks went on to score a trio of goals in a row to take the 6-4 lead. It wasn't until 2:41 left in the half that Ryan Arthur laced one past the Hawks' keeper to bring the Scots within a goal before Fernandez net his first goal of the night with six ticks remaining to head into the break all tied up at six.
  • In the third, the squads went goal for goal with Roger scoring first to hold the narrow edge before the Scots booked two in a row to take back the slight advantage but in the remaining minutes, the Hawks were able to score a pair of goals to head into the final frame, 10-9.
  • Roger Williams kept their rally going in the last quarter as the Hawks started to pull away, eventually gaining a four-goal lead (13-9) with 9:30 remaining in regulation. The Scots attempted to chip away at their deficit, but the Hawks stayed locked in on defense until 51 seconds left on the clock when Thies added another goal to his stat sheet, but it wasn't enough as the Scots took the eventual 10-14 loss.
Beyond The Box Score
  • John Flemmi booked a career-high three assists tonight.
  • The Fighting Scots are back in action on Saturday, April 15 when they travel to Springfield to face the Golden Bears of Western New England for another Conference battle at 4 p.m.
