Gordon College continued Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play this afternoon as they invited the Roger Williams University Hawks to the Brigham Athletic Complex where the Fighting Scots ultimately fell to their guests, 4-23.Â
For the Scots,
Hailey Beling,
Caroline Piorkowski,
Abbie Zorrilla and
Emma Darling each chipped in a goal in Gordon's effort.Â
The Hawks were led byÂ
Mandy Beck who booked four goals followed byÂ
Lily Cunningham andÂ
Karli Chapin who added a hat trick to Roger's tally. Meanwhile,Â
Ryleigh Cavanaugh net a pair of goals while recording four assists.Â
How It Happened
- The Hawks made sure to make their presence known right away, scoring four goals after 1:19 of action before ending the first, 12-0. Roger went on to lengthen their lead to 17-0 heading into the half.
- However, it wasn't until the third frame when the Scots were able to get on the board as Gordon's Zorrilla found the back of the net almost two minutes into the half to bring the score to 1-17. The Hawks retaliated with a goal but the Fighting Scots kept rolling offensively, tacking on another goal thanks to the stick of Beling before Piorkowski finessed one past the Hawks' keeper to make it 3-18. Roger was able to make their tally 20 before Gordon added their final goal with 4:39 left in the fourth after Darling took advantage of a free position shot to book her first goal of the season, however, it wasn't enough as the Hawks took the eventual 23-4 win.Â
Beyond The Box Score
- The Fighting Scots hit the road on Saturday, April 15 when they travel to Springfield to face the Western New England Golden Bears for a CCC match-up at 1 p.m.
