Scots Send Leopards Home Early In Game Two, 11-1

Gordon College Baseball returned to the J. Tec White Field this afternoon to square up against Commonwealth Coast Conference Opponents Wentworth Leopards for two nine-inning battles where the Fighting Scots first fell to their guests, 1-20 before run-ruling the Leopards 11-1 in the nightcap.

Game One
  • The squads held each other at bay in the first two innings before Wentworth broke it open in the third, grabbing a five-run lead. The Leopards were able to tack on another run in the fourth before adding another 10 to their score in the visitor's half of the sixth. However, the Fighting Scots answered back with their first tally of the afternoon after a hard hit ball from Shane Demers scored Jake Blake to bring the score to 1-16. 
  • In the seventh, the Leopards continued their hitting spree, making it 20-1 before shutting down the Scots to end it early and lock in the win. 
Game Two
  • S. Demers immediately got the Scots going as the senior drove in two runs with a linedrive single to right in the bottom of the first to go ahead 2-0. The Fighting Scots continued to pass the bat as CJ Demers roped a homerun over the left field fence to score Ismael Rivera and double their tally, 4-0 before Dalton Cody topped added another run with an RBI single (5-0) moments. Next, Robert Dunkle topped off the second inning with another RBI single to short to head into the third with a six-run lead.
  • The Fighting Scots went on to add one more run in the fourth off of a Leopard miscue to bring the score to 7-0. Meanwhile, Gordon's starting pitcher Tyler Sprince held the Leopards scoreless until the fourth when Wentworth was able to cross the plate once but the Scots continued to pour it on in the fifth and sixth innings to take the 11-1 CCC victory after seven-innings.  
Beyond The Box Score
  • Tyler Sprince had a career-high eight strikeouts in game two.
  • The Fighting Scots return to their home diamond on Tuesday, April 18 when they host CCC rivals Endicott College Gulls for a single game at 3 p.m.
