Game Recap: Baseball |

Scots Sweep Thomas in Sunday Afternoon Twin Bill

Gordon College Baseball returned to their home diamond this afternoon as they hosted the Thomas College Terriers for a non-Conference seven inning double header where the Fighting Scots started off the day with a 13-9 victory over the Terriers before bringing their hitting momentum over to game two to secure the sweep, 7-0.

Game One
  • The Terriers didn't take long to get hot as they scored five runs in their first at bats before holding the Scots to one run to make it 5-1 after one. Gordon was able to extinguish Thomas' bats, holding the Terriers to just one run in the second before breaking out the bats to put five more runs up on the board thanks to a string of Scot hits including a pair of doubles from Ben Chase and Andrew Hartman to knot it up at six-all.
  • In the third, Thomas was able to break the tie to go ahead, 7-6 but the Fighting Scots retaliated with a seven run rally after booking a whopping seven hits including a double from the hot bat of Gianni Mercurio before Hartman roped his second extra-base hit of the game to bring the score to 13-7.
  • The Terriers went on to chip away, grabbing one run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. The guests attempted to cut their deficit in the fifth with two runners in scoring position and two outs, but a diving catch by center fielder Chase stifled the Terriers' attempted hitting streak to keep it locked up at 13-9. The squads held each other scoreless in the final two innings before the Scots shut down the final three batters in a row securing the 13-9 win.
Game Two
  • It was a scoreless pitcher's duel until the bottom of the third when the Fighting Scots broke it open to take a five-run lead after drawing multiple walks before Jonathan McIntyre launched a double over the right fielder's head to bring the hammer down.
  • The teams held each other from scoring in the remaining innings until the sixth when Gordon's CJ Demers added two runs to the Scots' tally with one swing of the bat to seal the 7-0 shutout win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Pitcher Tyler Sprince earned his first collegiate win and shutout in game two.
  • The Fighting Scots are back in action tomorrow, April 3 when they host Bridgewater State for a single game at 3 p.m.
