Seahawks Fly Past Scots In CCC Twin Bill

The Fighting Scots traveled down to Newport, Rhode Island today for a double header against the Salve Regina Seahawks in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action where the Salve Regina Seahawks defeated the Fighting Scots 8-1, and 11-1.

Game One
  • With a runner at second and two down in the bottom of the second, left fielder Ben Chase made a diving catch into the fence to end the inning and keep the Seahawks off the board.
  • Then, in the bottom of the third, Salve Regina was able to plate two runs, before center fielder David Melendez made a diving catch to prevent further damage and end the innings (2-0).
  • Starting right-hander Andrew Marzetta allowed one earned run in four innings of work, scattering five hits.
  • Dalton Cody led off the top of the fifth with a double followed by a walk to Melendez but the two were stranded as Salve Regina was able to get out of the inning without damage. In the bottom of the inning, the Scots played stellar defense to keep Salve from scoring off of two singles to open up the frame.
  • Salve later scored six in the home half of the seventh to eventually secure the 8-1 win.
Game Two
  • The Seahawks drew first blood in the second, scoring three runs before tacking on one in the fourth and three in the fifth to lead 7-0.
  • CJ Demers belted a homer over the left field fence in the sixth, but that was all the offense Scots  were able to produce as the Seahawks took the 11-1 win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Scots take a break in league play as the host the Anna Maria Amcats on Wednesday, April 26 at 3 p.m. on J. Tec White Field.
