Scots Split With WNE In Thrilling Game 2 Win On Senior Day

Gordon College Baseball welcomed the Golden Bears of Western New England to J. Tec White Field for a seven inning twin bill as the Fighting Scots celebrated their five seniors. The Golden Bears edged the Scots in game one, 4-3 before the blue and white secured a big 6-1 victory in game two.

Game One
  • After leading off the bottom of the second with a double down the right field line, Shane Demers came around to score after a Robert Dunkle single to put the Scots up 1-0.
  • Starter Andrew Marzetta continued to keep the Golden Bears off the bases allowing just three hits through the first four innings. WNE however, came alive in the top of the fifth with a three-run homer to go on top, 3-1.
  • Not to be outdone, Andrew Hartman belted one out of the park to tie the game up at 3-all in the home half of the sixth. The Golden Bears were able to score once more in the top of the seventh to escape with the 4-3 win.
Game Two
  • Neither side was able to plate a run until David Melendez hit a solo shot down the right field line to once again draw first blood for the Scots as they led 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
  • WNE tied it up in the top of the fifth, but the Fighting Scots went to work in the home half of the inning.
  • Rookie starter Tyler Sprince allowed just three hits in five innings of work, surrendering just one run.
  • With the bases loaded, Dalton Cody singled up the middle, bringing home two to give Gordon the 3-1 advantage. Continuing to pour it on, Ben Chase hit a three-run bomb over the right center fence to widen the gap to five runs (6-1).
  • Zack Fay took care of the first out for his squad in the top of the seventh before S. Demers stepped on the mound to finish it off and defeat the Golden Bears, 6-1.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Gordon celebrated seniors Ben Richardson, Ryan McSally, Andrew Marzetta, Ben Chase, and Shane Demers before today's first pitch.
