Scots Take Care Of Rams In Home Finale, 6-3

Hosting for the final time in the regular season, Gordon College Baseball welcomed the Suffolk University Rams to J. Tec White Field for a nine inning battle where the Fighting Scots secured the 6-3 victory.

How It Happened
  • Senior right-hander Andrew Marzetta sat the Rams down in order in the top of the first. Then, the Fighting Scots' Jonathan McIntyre led off the frame with a single to left center before coming around to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Shane Demers to go on top, 1-0.
  • In the top of the third, Rookie Tyler Sprince took the rubber and followed the lead of Marzetta to retire the side in order.
  • Suffolk was able to tie it up in the fourth thanks to a solo shot to straight away center before tacking on another in the fifth to make it 2-1.
  • With two down and Hunter Simpson on third, McIntyre roped a single down the left field line to bring Simpson home and knot it up at 2-all heading into the seventh.
  • An inning later, Andrew Hartman broke the tie with a solo shot hammered over the right field fence to give Gordon the one-run lead (3-2).
  • Gordon capitalized in the eighth, using a pair of walks and two Suffolk infield errors to load the bases for senior S. Demers with two down. The senior laced a single down the right field line scoring two more runs, doubling up the Rams, 6-3 heading into their final at bats.
  • After three innings of work from the mound, Gianni Mercurio allowed just one hit and struck out four before S. Demers came in to finish it off. Demers closed it out to give Gordon the 6-3 win.

Beyond The Box Score
  • Andrew Hartman has now hit homers in two of the last three conference games.
  • Gianni Mercurio recorded his first win of his rookie season, while Shane Demers booked his first save of the year.
  • The Fighting Scots return to action on Saturday, May 6 for a road double header against the Roger Williams Hawks in Bristol, R.I.
