Scots Drop Two On The Road

The Gordon College Volleyball team went on the road to Norton, Massachusetts as they would compete against the Babson College Beavers and the Wheaton College Lyons in a tri-match contest. The Fighting Scots dropped both contest against non-conference competition.Ā 

Gordon v. Babson College (0 - 3)
  • The Fighting Scots were able to take the first point of the first set before Babson answered with six straight points and eventually went on top 17 - 6. Not going away without a fight, the Scots went on to score seven straight points to make it a four point game. However, Babson was able to close it out 25 - 17.Ā 
  • In similar fashion to the first set, Babson came out to a 8 - 2 advantage, before the blue and white would close the gap (8 - 6). With a pair of small runs, the blue and white continued to battle and closed the deficit multiple times, but the Beavers secured the 25 - 19 win.
  • Both sides traded points in the early third set, before Babson buckled down to make it a clean sweep after taking the last set with a score of 25 - 14.Ā 
Gordon v. Wheaton College (2 - 3)
  • Down 12 - 5 early, the Fighting Scots rattled off nine points to flip the script to lead 14 - 12. After the third lead change, the Lyons were able to sneak past the Scots 26 - 24.
  • Wheaton held a slight 9 - 8 advantage before Gordon reclaimed the lead, and never lookedĀ back securing the second set victory 25 - 21.
  • The Lyons opened the third frame with six straight points, before the Scots answered back with five of their own. However, the Scots were unable to get over the hump as the home team scored the final three points en route to 25 - 18 win.Ā 
  • Once again, the Scots and Lyons went point for point before Gordon used three straight attack errors to their advantage and took the fourth set 25 - 21.Ā 
  • Gordon held the 6 - 2 lead in the fifth and final set before Wheaton clawed their way back to go on top 9 - 7, but keeping the hope alive, both squads continued to fight for every point needing a two point gap to declare victory. With the scoreboard reading 17 - 17, the Lyons were able to collect the final two points (19 - 17 ) to come away with a 3 - 2 win.Ā 
Beyond The Box Score
  • Annie Murphy booked a career high of four aces against the Lyons.Ā 
  • Kate Howe had a double double with 14 digs and 34 assists against Wheaton College.Ā 
  • The Fighting Scots are back in action asĀ they visitĀ Endicott CollegeĀ on October 4 at 7:00 p.m.
