The Gordon College Men's Basketball team hit the road for their season-opener as the Fighting Scots faced off against Lesley University this evening. The Scots opened up the 2024-2025 campaign in the win column after defeating the Lynx by a score of 85-75.
For the Scots,
Isaac Jarvis had a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds,
Bernie McGuiness was not far behind with 20 points, and
Micah Steely rounded out the double-digit scorers with 15 points.Â
The Lynx were paced by
Tavon Rhodes who had 27 points and
Malachi Howard who chipped in 11 on the night.
How It Happened
- Gordon found themselves on top, 7-2 early before a Lesley layup gave them the one-point edge. However, both sides knotted up the scoreboard a trio of times before Lesley attempted to pull away and later led by as many as seven with 7:55 left in the first.
- McGuinness knocked in the bruise and the bucket to trim the deficit to four, followed by a Jarvis layup to make it a two-point game.Â
- Alex Daniel rattled in a layup to give his squad the 31-30 advantage with 2:54 remaining, and despite a Lynx layup, Jarvis put Gordon out front 34-32 at the break.
- A pair of 7-0 runs to kick off the second half sent Gordon ahead by 12 less than five minutes into the frame.
- The Scots maintained a double-digit lead for much of the second until the Lynx shrunk the margin to four points (76-72) with 3:25 on the board. Gordon netted six straight to make it a 10-point game with 1:19 to go in regulation and secure the eventual victory.
