The Gordon College Men's Basketball team welcomed the Nichols College Bison to Kanas Court in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. The close contest between the two teams went back and forth but the inside play dominated for the Bison as they won 90-80.Ā
Sean Quanico led the charge for the Fighting Scots with 21 points, as teammate
Bryce Smith chipped in 17 points and five assists.Ā
To lead all scorers, Nichols'
Tavon Jones led the way with 24 points, while teammates
Deshaun Nettles and
Jason Ofcarcik both notched double-doubles with 17 points and 12 rebounds and 16 points and 13 rebounds respectively.Ā
How It Happened
- Both sides went bucket for bucket in the opening minutes as Micah Steely knocked in a jumper to give Gordon the 14-13 edge at the 12:30 mark. The Scots continued to hold the upper hand, before the Bison regained the lead (21-20). Throughout the remainder of the eight minutes of play, the scoreĀ flip flopped back and forth as the visitors went into the locker room withĀ the two-point lead (35-37) at the break.Ā
- Justin Yu kicked off the second with the first seven points for the blue and white as they went on top 42-39 two minutes into the second half. The scoreboard was locked up three more times before the Bison began to pull away, keeping the spread a two possession game. The Scots continued to battle draining timely shots, but top-ranked Bison withheld the storm en route to the 10-point victory.Ā
