Late Spark Puts Cougars Over Scots

The Gordon College Women's Lacrosse team continued at home as they welcomed the Cougars of Clark University from Worcerster, Massachusetts. After a hard fought 60 minutes of play, the Fighting Scots fell to the visitors with a score of 13-10.

Kaitlyn Mini recorded a team high in goals with four, Caroline Piorkowski booked three goals and one assist, and teammate Alexis LaPia chipped in two goals and one assist. 

For the visitors, Elizabeth Liakos led the way with four goals and two assist, Kiley Simmons tacked on three goals, while Sophie Didier two goals and as many assist. 

How It Happened
  • Mini found the back of the net two minutes in to put Gordon on top, 1-0. Clark answered right back less than a minute later to knot it up 1-1. LaPia tallied back-to-back goals in less than a minute span, to put the Fighting Scot up 3-1 heading into the second quarter. 
  • Both sides tacked on three goals each in the second, as the blue and white maintained their two goal lead at the break (6-4). 
  • Clark scored four unanswered goals in the third, to take their first lead of the contest (8-6). From their Gordon outscored the Cougars 3-2, but the visitors held on for the one goal edge 10-9 as they entered the fourth quarter. 
  • The Cougars continued to press offensively as they scored three more goals to Gordon's one goal of the quarter, finishing the game 13-10. 
Beyond The Box Score
  • Lilia Bailey recorded a career high of six ground balls. 
  • Veterans, Becca Rhoda and Abbie Zorrilla booked career-highs in caused turnovers with four and five respectively. 
  • The Fighting Scots are at home one more time before Spring Break action as they host Wellesley College at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28.
