How It Happened
- Sophomore Ryan Arthur stopped the Lyons' four goal scoring run at the 6:31 mark in the first, but the visitors were able to tack on one more to close the quarter leading 5-1.
- The Fighting Scots' steady defense kept Wheaton at bay for much of the second frame until just over five minutes remained as the Lyons widened the gap to 6-1. From there, however, Gordon's Fernandez found the back of the net twice along with an Arthur tally to make it a two-goal game at halftime (6-4).Â
- Coming out of halftime, Wheaton netted the first of the frame before Gordon answered back with two straight to come within one. With 4:41 on the clock in the third, Wright came around the cage to slide a shot past the Wheaton keeper to knot the score up at 7-7.
- Picking up where they left off, the blue and white rocketed in another goal after Wright found Arthur for his fourth goal of the afternoon to put the Scots on top, 8-7. The Lyons came back on the other end to tie up the scoreboard at 8-all with 7:46 left in regulation. Then, two minutes later, Flemmi went on a tear, firing in two goals within a 60 second span to put Gordon on top by two (10-8) with 4:47 to go in the frame. Keeping with the theme of the fourth, Wheaton scored on the other end of the field to come within one, but the blue and white's Cullen Davey added an insurance goal late to secure the eventual 11-9 come from behind victory.
