Owls Hold Off Scots In Non-Conference Play

The Men's Lacrosse of Gordon College went up to Keene, New Hampshire to face off against the Owls of Keene State University. After a hard fought four quarters, the home team was able to prevail 12-9. 

John Flemmi paced the Fighting Scots with three goals, Marco Fernandez added two goals and one assist, while Jackson Wright tallied two goals. 

To lead all scorer, Jack Ansart registered four goals and two assist, while Andrew Miller chipped in two goals and one assist.

How It Happened
  • Fernandez put the blue and white on top first with a goal just over 6:21 remaining in the first. To close out the frame, the Owls tied it up 1-1 going into the second. 
  • In the second, Wright found the back of the net early to give Gordon the edge, but the Owls scored three straight to double up the Scots 4-2. Gordon however retaliated with three straight goals of their own to hold the 5-4 advantage with 3:36 to go in the half. Not to be outdone the home team tacked on one more to even it up at 5-all at the break. 
  • Keene opened up the third by rattling off five unanswered goals to lead 10-5. The Scots continued to fight as they tacked on three straight tallies to shrink the deficit to two goals (10-8) going into the final stretch. 
  • Flemmi ripped in a shot to close in the gap to one goal in the opening minute of the fourth, but the Owls were able to hold on for the 12-9 win.

  • John Flemmi had a season-high of three goals. 
  • Marco Fernandez has scored in back-to-back games. 
  • Gordon begins their spring break trip as they travel to Pennsylvania as they play the Cairn University Highlanders on Wednesday, March 6 at 12 pm.
