Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Scots Falter In Narrow Loss to Hawks

The Gordon College Men's Basketball team took to Kanas Court as they welcomed Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe, the Roger WIlliams University Hawks. The battle was back and forth, until the Hawks were able to capitalize off of getting to the free throw line and extending possessions late down the stretch of the second half to secure the 74-81 victory.

For the Fighting Scots, Justin Yu led the way with 17 points, while teammate Treyton Tebbs contributed another 14 points.

To lead all scorers, were Hawks teammates, Finn Miller and Philip Sughrue with 19 points, respectively.

How It Happened
  • The blue and white had a solid start attacking the paint and getting easy looks around the rim and converting, but the Hawks also came in with the same mindset of getting to the rim and attacking. The Hawks took a nine point lead at the 12 minute mark, but the Fighting Scots kept in the fight as everyone chipped in four minute window to flip the script and take a one point advantage (26-25) with eight minutes remaining of play in the first.
  • As the second half started, the Scots took the first five points in the opening minute. Both teams continued to trade buckets back and forth, as neither team could take more than a seven point advantage in the beginning nine minutes. The Hawks were able to take a breathe before the Scots brought to a one possession game with under a minute to go, but the Hawks knocked down back to back trips to the charity stripe, sealing the seven point victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • As a team Gordon, converted off of the Hawks turnovers with a margin of plus four.
  • The Scots are headed back on the road as they travel to Springfield, Mass. on Tuesday, February 6 at 7:30 p.m. to take on the Western New England University Golden Bears.
