The Gordon College Men's Basketball team took to the road as they traveled to Springfield, Massachusetts as they competed against the Golden Bears of Western New England (WNE) for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match-up. The game stayed tight within the first period, but the inside play of the top-ranked Golden Bears deemed too much for the Fighting Scots to handle as the final score read 105-68.Â
It was
Bryce Smith for the Scots with 21 points, while
Micah Steely contributed 11 points.Â
For the Golden Bears,
Brian Geitner had 21 points on the evening, as teammate
Tim Restall dropped 16 points.Â
How It Happened
- The blue and white took the first basket of the evening, thanks to Smith. Gordon went back up at the 15 minute mark off of a deep ball from Justin Yu (12-11). WNE went on an 8-0 run, before Treyton Tebbs knocked down a three, cutting the deficit to five. In the remaining seven minutes, the Golden Bears stretched the lead to 41-52.Â
- To open the half, the Golden Bears went on a 14-point run, but Smith came back with a deep three ball and mid-range jumper to cut the lead. WNE's inside play was too much for Gordon to overcome down the stretch as the home team took the league win.Â
Beyond The Box Score
- Bryce Smith has now scored double digits in back to back games.Â
- Gehrig Zimmerman knock down two from beyond the arc, scoring a season-high of six points.Â
- The Fighting Scots are back at home, as they honor senior Justin Yu and host the Leopards of Wentworth on Saturday, February 10 at 3 p.m. on Kanas Court. Â
