Buccaneers Outlast Scots In 11-Inning Battle

The Gordon College Baseball team welcomed the Mass. Maritime Academy (MMA) Buccaneers to J. Tec White Field for their season-opener where extra innings were needed as the visitors edged the Fighting Scots, 14-10.

How It Happened
  • The Buccaneers scored first and early as the visitors scored one in the top of the first before tacking on three more to hold the 4-0 advantage heading into the home half of the fourth.
  • Rookie, catcher Alex Razzaboni lifted a pitch over the left field fence to put Gordon on the board to make the score 4-1. MMA came right back in their next at bats to hit a solo shot to regain the four-run cushion (5-1).
  • In the home half of the sixth, Colby Galipeau laid down a perfectly placed bunt to lead off the frame and eventually came around to score after a Jonathan McIntyre double down the left field line. Next up, CJ Demers cleared the bases with a two-run dinger over the left field fence to make it a one-run ball game (5-4).
  • A single scored a Buccaneer in the top of the seventh to bring the score to 6-4. However, the Scots went to work in the bottom of the frame to erase the deficit. Gordon loaded the bases with no outs and tied up the score after a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly. Not yet satisfied, Demers hit one down the left field line to score Jacob Blake to give the Scots their first lead of the afternoon (7-6).
  • Continuing to fight, MMA put a three-spot up on the board in the top of the ninth, but the blue and white answered in the bottom of the ninth, thanks to back-to-back doubles from Blake and James Coats.
  • After a scoreless 10th inning, the Buccaneers scored five times in the top of the 11th to secure the eventual 14-10 win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Alex Razzaboni recorded his first collegiate home run today.
  • Two of CJ Demers' three homers on the season have been with runners on the bases.
