Fernandez Spearheads Scots' 11-10 Victory Over Hawks

The Gordon College Fighting Scots Men's Lacrosse team welcomed the Hawks of Hartford University to the Brigham Athletic Complex this afternoon, where the Fighting Scots clipped the Hawks, 11-10.

For the blue and white, Marco Fernandez led the way with five goals and two assists, Jackson Wright added three goals and one helper, while Caden Lake chipped in two goals. Aidan Walsh won 17 of 25 face-offs with eight grounds balls and keeper Colin Liscomb recorded 18 saves.

Hartford's Ethan Hunt had three goals and one assists while Nicholas Forgione tacked on three goals and four ground balls.

How It Happened
  • Gordon's Lake found the back of the net first putting the Fighting Scots up 1-0 at 8:55 in the first quarter, but both teams went back and forth in the frame coming out even at 2-2. 
  • Fernandez had a hand in all second quarter goals as the Scots scored four more, leading by two (6-4) going into the break. 
  • Coming out of the half, the Scots and Hawks flip flopped goals before Hartford scored back-to-back in the final minutes, however the blue and white remained in control, 8-7.
  • The Scots widened the gap to three goals before the visitors attempted a comeback, shrinking the deficit to one goal with under a minute remaining. However, Gordon's defense held strong to earn the hard fought victory.

  • Marco Fernandez netted a career-high five goals today.
  • Jackson Wright registered his first hat trick of the season.
  • Colin Liscomb has booked 18 saves in two out of the last three games.
  • Gordon College is on the road in their next game as they travel up to Henniker, New Hampshire as they face the Pilgrims of New England College on Wednesday, March 20 at 7 p.m.
