Scots Open Up CCC Play With Split Against Leopards

Due to potential inclement weather, the twin bill of Gordon College and Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) Baseball faced off today for a seven-inning doubleheader on J. Tec White Field. The Fighting Scots ran away with game one, 6-4, and dropped game two, 6-1.

Game One
  • CJ Demers plated the first run of the game off of a Alex Razzaboni single up the middle in the top of the first.
  • Picking up where they left off, the blue and white tacked on five more runs in the next inning thanks to four timely hits as well as capitalized off of a trio of errors from the visitors (6-0).
  • Starting right-handed pitcher, Riley Stys sat the Leopards down in order in both the second and third to maintain Gordon's comfortable lead.
  • The Leopards attempted to make a comeback in the fifth and sixth inning, scoring two runs in each, but the blue and white's defense held strong with reliever, Mike Williams on the rubber to get the save and win 6-4.
Game Two
  • After two scoreless innings to kick off the second game, Demers belted a solo shot over the left field fence in the top of the third to make it 1-0 in favor of Gordon. However, in the bottom of the frame, the Leopards matched the Fighting Scots with an RBI-single up the middle to lock it up at 1-1.
  • In the fifth inning, Wentworth took the led as they knocked in four runs, to go up 5-1. The Leopards tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth for insurance, and would come away with the win (6-1).
Beyond The Box Score
  • In his longest outing on the mound this season, Riley Stys allowed a career best of two hits during his 5.0 innings of work. The newcomer recorded his first win as a Fighting Scot.
  • David Melendez recorded his first two-hit game of the season in game two.
  • The Fighting Scots step out of conference play as they host the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers on Tuesday, March 26 for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
