Sprince Pitches Gem In Game One Shutout

Gordon College Baseball took to the diamond this afternoon for a double header against the Colby-Sawyer Chargers. The Fighting Scots defeated the Chargers in game one by a score of 5-0 and dropped the second game, 11-6.

Game One
  • After a clean first inning from starting pitcher Tyler Sprince, Andrew Hartman started the scoring for the home team in the bottom of the frame with an RBI-single to plate Jonathan McIntyre to make it 1-0. Two batters later, Joey Kazlauskas doubled to left field, scoring two more, bringing the score to 3-0 in favor of Gordon.
  • AJ Figueroa tripled to right center to lead off the bottom of the second and quickly crossed the plate off of a McIntyre single (4-0). To cap off the scoring in the frame, Hartman knocked in his second RBI of the day with a double to right center field (5-0).
  • Sprince continued to be stellar from the mound, keeping the Chargers off balance through 5.2 innings of work, striking out four while allowing zero hits for his second win of the season. Mike Williams took care of the final one and a third innings, surrendering just one hit, while also striking out four to secure the 5-0 shutout of the visitors.
Game Two
  • Both squads were held scoreless to open up the night cap, before Colby-Sawyer went on top, 1-0 after an RBI-double down the left field line in the top of the third. 
  • Kazlauskas hit a solo shot to left in the fourth to lock it up at 1-1.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Scots exploded for five runs thanks to five hits to take their first lead of the game, 6-1.
  • Colby-Sawyer came right back in their next offensive chance as the Chargers crossed the plate nine times in the sixth before adding one more in the seventh to take game two, 11-6.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Gordon secured their first shutout of the season in game one.
  • Jonathan McIntyre has now recorded multiple hits in six games so far this season.
  • Andrew Hartman booked his first three-hit game of the year.
  • AJ Figueroa's two hits in game two was his first multi-hit game of his rookie campaign.
  • The Fighting Scots open up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Saturday, March 30 as they travel to Dudley, Mass. to battle the Nichols College Bison at 11:30 a.m.
