Scots Latch Down On Gators In 7-4 Victory

Gordon College Baseball had a quick turnaround this morning as they took on the Sage College Gators at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, Florida, where the Fighting Scots solidified their first victory of the young season, 7-4.

How It Happened

  • Senior, Andrew Hartman singled up the middle in the top of the first to give his squad the early, 1-0 advantage, bringing in Jonathan McIntyre. But, Sage answered back in their next at bats to tie the game up at 1-all.
  • AJ Figueroa ignited the four run second inning by sending home Robert Dunkle, followed by yet another ground-rule double from CJ Demers (two RBI), and an RBI-single from Hartman to lift the score to 5-1 in favor of the Scots. The Gators were able to cross the plate in the top of the third thanks to a pair of timely hits (5-2)
  • In the top of the fourth, pitcher Michael Pelletier struck out the side to maintain Gordon's comfortable lead.
  • The hot bat of Demers knocked in another run for the blue and white with a single up the middle to widen the gap to 6-2 in the sixth before teammate Dunkle added another to the score with a shot up the middle (7-2). Sage was able to score two in the eighth but the Fighting Scots' Mike Williams was rock solid through an inning and a third to earn the 7-4 victory for Gordon.

Beyond The Box Score

  • Michael Pelletier earned his first career win as a Fighting Scot while Mike Williams secured his first save.
  • CJ Demers has recorded three hits in back-to-back contests and has belted a double in four out of the last eight at bats.
  • Andrew Hartman has now had three straight multi-hit games.
  • The Fighting Scots have a rest day tomorrow and will be back at it at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 7 to battle Calvin.
