Hawks Fend Off Scots In Saturday Doubleheader

The Gordon College Baseball team faced off for a twin bill against the University of Hartford Hawks today in West Hartford, Connecticut where the Hawks swept the Fighting Scots, 13-3 and 12-2. Despite the games being played on Hartford's home field, Gordon remained the home team as there was a change of location.

Game One
  • After the Hawks went up 6-0, the Fighting Scots got two runs back to make it a four-run game after three innings of play.
  • Hartford widened the gap to 13-2 before CJ Demers laced a double down the left field line to bring Evan Clark home in the bottom of the seventh, bringing the final score to 13-3.
Game Two
  • Through four innings of work, starting pitcher Kevin Whalen allowed just two runs and six hits, while fanning two batters. Hartford tacked on two more in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 4-0, going into the sixth.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, a Dalton Cody double scored teammate Jacob Blake to make it 4-1. Shortly after, Kendrick Iverson laid down a bunt to score Robert Dunkle, cutting the deficit in half (4-2).
  • Hartford came right back in their next opportunity to plate four runs (8-4). The Hawks' pitching stalled Gordon at the plate down the stretch as Hartford came away with the sweep.
