Playing on their home courts for the first time this semester, Gordon College Men's Tennis welcomed the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards to the Brigham Athletic Complex for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match-up where the Fighting Scots celebrated Senior Day in style with a 7-2 victory.
No. 1 doubles partners
Ezekiel Hall and
Jeffrey Bodner took down their counterparts, 8-3 to quickly put Gordon up, 1-0. Securing the second point for the home team were the No. 3 duo of
Carleton Riester and
James Wellborn who had the upper hand against their opponents as they also won by a score of 8-3. Wentworth was able to steal a point on the second court in a tightly contested battle to trail the Scots, 2-1 heading into singles.
Bodner went to work in No. 2 singles, as the sophomore put up a clean sheet with straight, 6-0, 6-0 wins.
Larson Benthem was next on the victory parade (7-5, 6-2) in the No. 5 slot, followed by No. 4 Riester whose 6-2, 7-6, 7-5 win clinched the victory for the blue and white. Despite the match in hand, Hall came through with a thrilling 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory and closing it out for Gordon was
Joshua Noel who defeated his No. 3 counterpart, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Before today's match, the Scots honored their three seniors,
Ezekiel Hall,
Sam Miller, and
Brendan Tuttle.Â
Next up for the Fighting Scots is another CCC contest on Monday, April 15 as they travel to Bristol, R.I. to battle the Hawks of Roger Williams at 4 p.m.
