Game Recap: Baseball |

Hawks Clip Scots In Monday Twinbill

Gordon College Baseball hit the dirt this afternoon for a double header against Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Roger Williams University (RWU) at J. Tec White Field. The Fighting Scots lost game one by a score of 7-2, and despite outhitting the Hawks in game two, the Scots were edged out 5-3.

Game One
  • After a scoreless first inning, the Hawks used a combination of patience at the plate and a trio of hits to put five runs on the board in the top of the second (5-0).
  • Gordon starter Riley Stys bounce backed to retire the side in order in the top of the third, followed by a hitless inning in the fourth to keep it a five-run game.
  • With the bases loaded in the home half of the fourth, a failed pick off attempt from the Hawks' pitcher, allowed Andrew Hartman to cross the plate to cut the deficit to four (5-1).
  • RWU tacked on two more insurance runs in the sixth to widen the gap to 7-1. Not going down without a fight, the Fighting Scots strung together a pair of hits in the bottom of the seventh to plate a run, but the Hawks came out with the league win.
Game Two
  • The Scots took advantage of a Hawk miscue in the bottom of the first to quickly go on top, 1-0.
  • In the top of the third, RWU orchestrated a three-run inning to flip the script and lead 3-1.
  • Hartman led off the bottom of the frame with a single through the left side, followed by a double to right center from Alex Razzaboni to put runners at second and third. Dalton Cody knocked in Hartman to make it a one-run game (3-2).
  • Starter, Tyler Sprince continued to shut the Hawks down in the fifth and sixth to keep the game in reach.
  • The Hawks added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to widen the gap (5-2). Gordon rallied in the bottom of the seventh stringing together three hits, but were only able to score one run as RWU took the two run victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • AJ Figueroa collected his second multi-hit game of his rookie season.
  • Alex Razzaboni and Andrew Hartman recorded their first multi-hit game in league action.
  • The Fighting Scots return to the diamond tomorrow, April 9 to host the Suffolk University Rams at 3 p.m.
