Demers Walks It Off In 9-8 W Over Rams In 13 Innings

After a quick turnaround, Gordon College Baseball welcomed the Suffolk University Rams to J. Tec White Field in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. The Fighting Scots and Rams battled for over four hours with the Scots having the last say in a thrilling 9-8 win over the visitors.

How It Happened
  • CJ Demers doubled down the left field line in the first inning, followed by Alex Razzaboni who knocked the junior in to put Gordon on top, 1-0. In the bottom of the frame, Suffolk put five runs on the board after a four-hit inning to lead 5-1.
  • In the following inning, Dalton Cody led off the inning with a single up the middle, followed by a single through the right side off the bat of Jacob Blake. Cody came around to score off of a Suffolk error to cut the deficit to three. Then, AJ Figueroa laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position which set up lead-off batter Jonathan McIntyre who brought both teammates home after a shot up the middle to make it a 5-4 ball game.
  • McIntyre knocked in his third and fourth RBIs of the afternoon with a single to left center in the home half of the third, to put his squad back out in front 6-5.
  • After stepping onto the mound in the fourth, pitcher Gianni Mercurio quieted the Rams through 4.0 innings of work, allowing just one hit during that span.
  • Suffolk regained the lead in the eighth after crossing the plate twice (7-6).
  • Down to their final out in the bottom of the ninth, Demers smoked one over the left field field to lock the score up at 7-7 and sent the game to extra innings.
  • Neither side was able to score in the tenth, and then in the 11th, the Rams looked as though they were going to come out with the win after a solo shot over the right field fence (8-7). However, in the bottom of the inning, a Figueroa single sent Blake home to tie the score up at 8-8.
  • With two outs in the home half of the 13th, the reliable Demers stepped up to the plate and found the gap in left center field to score Evan Clark for the winning run (9-8).

  • Jonathan McIntrye tied his career-high with four RBIs.
