Men’s Basketball Edged by Plymouth State, 76-75, in Home Opener

WENHAM, Mass.- The Gordon College men's basketball team dropped a 76-75 decision to Plymouth State Friday evening at the Bennett Center in the first home game of the season as part of the Gordon Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams headed into the halftime break deadlocked at 36-36 after a tightly-contested opening 20 minutes.
  • Plymouth State grabbed an eight-point lead with 4:25 remaining in regulation, 71-63.
  • Gordon trimmed the deficit to 73-72 on a basket by Michael Nezaj (Armonk, N.Y.) with 2:31 left to play.
  • The Panthers responded with a trey by Asante' Aurora to push the gap to 76-72.
  • The Fighting Scots cut the margin to 76-75 as Drew Brander (Chester, N.H.) banked in a layup and sank a free throw with less than a minute on the clock.
  • Plymouth State survived the final seconds of the game to lock up its third-straight win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Drew Brander (Chester, N.H.) poured in a game-high 27 points to go with eight boards.
  • Sean Quanico (Pacifica, Calif.) netted 12 points while adding five assists and four rebounds.
  • Alex Daniel (Nolensville, Tenn.) chalked up 11 points.
  • Michael Nezaj (Armonk, N.Y.) posted eight points and seven boards.
  • Gordon concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 49.1% while connecting on 6-of-15 from three-point range.
  • Plymouth State shot 35.1% from the floor and 39.4% from behind the arc.
  • Yansel Reyes scored 26 points to lead the Panthers and Torran Bosworth tallied 15 points.
