Men’s Basketball Rolls Past Wentworth in CNE Opener, 88-67

WENHAM, Mass.- The Gordon College men's basketball team earned its first victory of the season, downing Wentworth 88-67 in the first Conference of New England (CNE) tilt of the year Wednesday evening at the Bennett Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Gordon started the game with seven unanswered points and would never relinquish the lead throughout the game.
  • The Fighting Scots extended their advantage to 24-7 with 9:32 remaining in the first half.
  • The home team widened the margin to 20 points with 2:48 left to play in the opening frame, 38-18, on a basket by Alex Daniel (Nolensville, Tenn.).
  • Gordon owned a 44-28 lead at the halftime break.
  • The Fighitng Scots grabbed their largest advantage midway through the second stanza, 62-35, as Tristan Rodriguez (Braintree, Mass.) canned a three-pointer.
  • Gordon edged Wentworth 44-39 in second half scoring en route to collecting its first win of the year.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Alex Daniel (Nolensville, Tenn.) led all scorers with 23 points to go with seven boards and six assists.
  • Ryan Brooks (Dudley, Mass.) posted 16 points, six rebounds, and six blocks.
  • Drew Brander (Chester, N.H.) tallied 14 points and grabbed six boards.
  • Nate Ashley (Newcastle, Okla.) chipped in with eight points off the bench.
  • Gordon concluded the contest with a season-high field-goal percentage of 55.2% while draining 7-of-16 from behind the arc.
  • Wentworth was limited to 22.4% shooting from the floor and 21.9% shooting from three-point territory.
  • Colin Mannke registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Leopards while Russell Dolabany also added 10 points.
