Big Third Inning Lifts Blue Jays Over Scots

Gordon College Baseball traveled over to Connecticut today for their season-opener where the Fighting Scots took on the Blue Jays of the University of Saint Joseph. The Fighting Scots fell to their hosts, 7-4.

How It Happened
  • USJ drew first blood in the home half of the first inning to go on top, 1-0.
  • Then, after a scoreless second inning, the Scots put together a two-out rally to plate two runs and take the 2-1 advantage. However, the home team answered right back, regaining the lead after putting up a four-spot on the board in the bottom of the inning to lead, 5-2.
  • After a silent two innings thanks to reliever Jack Birtwell, the home team was able to come around the bases for two more runs in the sixth (7-2)
  • Senior CJ Demers belted one over the left field fence to cut the deficit to four runs in the top of the seventh. Once again keeping the Blue Jays at bay, Gordon's Michael Pelletier allowed just one base runner in the seventh before sitting down the side in the eighth (7-3).
  • In their final opportunity, Gordon battled in the top of the ninth after a lead-off single from Jacob Blake, but the visitors were only to tack on one more run to fall in the season-opener.
Beyond The Box Score
  • CJ Demers is now in a three-way tie for the career home run record in program history with 17.
  • Next up for the Scots is a neutral site game against Bates on Saturday, March 1 at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough at 3 p.m.
