Gordon College Women's Lacrosse returned to the field today as they traveled into Boston to play the Sharks of Simmons University. The Fighting Scots and Sharks battled until the end, but the home team survived, 13-11.
Kaitlyn Mini paced the Scots with six goals and three assists and
Caroline Piorkowski added five dimes and four goals. Keeper
Kayla Davidson booked 17 saves tonight.
Simmons'
Abby Mountain recorded three assists and scored twice, whileÂ
Frida Turriza and
Kat Wood each found the back of the net three times and booked one helper each.
How It Happened
- After Simmons took the early 2-0 lead, Piorkowski split the difference to put the Scots on the board (2-1) before Mini locked up the scoreboard less than a minute later (2-2). The Sharks answered back to regain the edge, but the Scots once again knotted up the scoreboard at 3-3. Simmons was able to rip one more goal in the net before the end of the first to hold the 4-3 lead.
- The home lead stretched the score to 7-4, but Mini fought right back to make it a one-goal game going into the break (7-6).
- Simmons made it a four-goal difference in the third, but Piorkowski and Mini rocked back-to-back shots to make it 11-9 with 2:07 to go in the third. Simmons capped off the frame with their fifth to lead 12-9 going into the fourth.
- Tillie Hutton fired in a goal to kick off the final 15 minutes of regulation, followed by a Mini goal off of a Piorkowski feed (12-11) with 5:23 on the board. With one minute remaining, Simmons tacked on an insurance goal to escape, 13-11.
Beyond The Box Score
- Out of Gordon's five games so far this year, Kaitlyn Mini has scored six goals in three of those contests.
- Caroline Piorkowski had a season-high four goals and five assists tonight.
- Kayla Davidson also had a season-high 17 saves.
- Gordon plays next on Wednesday, March 19 at 4 p.m. against New England College at the Brigham Athletic Complex.
