Gordon Sails Past Pilgrims, 16-12

The Gordon College Fighting Scots' Women's Lacrosse team stepped onto the Brigham Athletic Complex turf this afternoon for a non-conference tilt against the New England College (NEC) Pilgrims where the Fighting Scots stormed out to their first win of the young season, 16-12.

For the Scots, Kaitlyn Mini once again led the way with seven goals and one assist, Caroline Piorkowski added four goals and one helper, while Tillie Hutton netted three goals. On the defensive end, senior Emma Darling caused three turnovers and scooped up two ground balls, keeper Kayla Davidson fended off 13 shots

NEC's Meadow Gilchrist paced the Pilgrims with four goals and three goals, Mackenzie McDonald also added five goals, while Annalisa Crooks chipped in one goal and one assist.

How It Happened
  • NEC opened up the contest with the first goal, but the home team answered right back to lock up the score at 1-1 midway through the first. The Pilgrims regrouped to net three straight before Piorkowski stopped the bleeding to cut the deficit in half going into the second quarter (4-2).
  • Mini and Hutton scored within a 30 second span to kick off the second quarter and knot up the scoreboard at 4-all. Both squads traded goals for two more scores before the Scots went on a 4-0 scoring spree to lead, 9-6 with 4:21 to go in the half. Not going away easily, the visitors netted the final two goals of the half to make it a one-goal game at the break.
  • After the visitors recorded the first two tallies of the third, the blue and white went on a tear, ripping in four consecutive goals to go on top, 13-10 after three quarters of action.
  • Gordon was in the driver's seat in the fourth and closed out the afternoon with back-to-back-to-back goals en route to the thrilling 16-12 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Rookie Tillie Hutton not only booked her first multi-goal game of her young Fighting Scot career, but she also reached a career-high 3 goals today.
  • Fellow rookie Naomi Haysel netted her first career goal of the season.
