Scots Tame Chargers In Doubleheader Sweep

Gordon College Baseball opened up their home field for a mid-week doubleheader against the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers. The Fighting Scots took care of business in game one, winning 4-2. Game two was a similar story with the Scots claiming a 5-2 victory over the Chargers.

Game One
  • After a scoreless first inning, the Chargers went on the board to go up 1-0 in the top of the second. Their lead did not last long as Gabe Fales struck a double through the left side to send in the Scots' first run in the bottom of the second (1-1).
  • Hunter Normandin at short stop, CJ Demers at right field, and Tyler Wilson at center field snagged a quick three outs to set up the offense in the bottom of the third. Robert Dunkle put a single up the middle to take the lead (2-1).
  • The Scots added two more runs to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Demers ripped a double to send a run while Evan Clark knocked in a run with another double.
  • The Chargers showed fight and scored a run to cut the lead to 4-2. However, first baseman Dunkle caught a foul ball to seal game one.
Game Two
  • In the top of the first, Dunkle put the Scots on the board first with a sacrifice bunt (1-0).
  • Pitcher Kevin Whalen and the Scots' defense held their 1-0 lead through the first four innings until the Chargers put up two runs in the fifth to lead 2-1.
  • However, the Chargers didn't hold the lead long as the Scots evened the score at 2-2.
  • The lead tipped towards the blue and white as Fales was walked which sent in a run. Ben Marciano added cushion to the lead with a single (4-2). Demers hit a sacrifice fly that brought the lead up to 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
  • With the game on the line, the Scots grounded a double play and soon after caught a fly ball. The Scots closed out the double header with a second win, 5-2.
