Taking the field today for their home-opener, Gordon College Women's Lacrosse welcomed the Mariners of Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) to the Brigham Athletic Complex where the visitors took the 16-3 win.

For Gordon, Caroline Piorkowski led the way with two goals, Kaitlyn Mini had one goal and one assist, while Marializ Lopez chipped in an assist. 

Maine Maritime's Lillian Diversi scored five goals, Julia Wade netted four, while Hazel Stoddard added three in the win.

How It Happened

• After great defense from Emma Darling, the Fighting Scots raced down the field as Piorkowski ripped a shot past the Mariners' keeper to put Gordon out in front, 1-0. Less than a minute later, Maine Maritime answered back before scoring two more goals to lead 3-1 after the first quarter. The Mariners came out hot offensively in the second to score seven more and widen the gap to 10-1 at halftime. 
• Opening the second half similar to the first, Piorkowski found the back of the cage to make it a 10-2 game. MMA closed out the third with six straight tallies but the Scots' defense was a brick wall in the fourth, and held the visitors scoreless in the final frame.

• Caroline Piorkowski now has two games so far this season with two or more goals.
• Rookie Marializ Lopez registered her first assist today.
• The Scots head into Boston on Thursday, March 6 to play the Emerson College Lions at 6 p.m. on Rotch Field.
