Scots Outhit Cougars, 14-12

Gordon College Baseball took on the University of Minnesota-Morris Cougars at Lake Mrytle Park in Auburndale, Florida. The Fighting Scots controlled the majority of the game until a late push by the Cougars. However, the Scots extinguished their momentum to close out the game with a 14-12 win.

How It Happened
  • Evan Clark got the Fighting Scots going as he batted two runs in with a single to left field. Soon after, Clark stole home for the Scots' third run of the game. Hunter Normandin scored another Scots for a 4-0 lead. The Cougars were held scoreless headed into the second.
  • The Scots extended their lead to 5-0 until the Cougars scored five runs of their own tying it up at five a piece.
  • The Cougars eventually went up one in to take their first lead of the game 6-5.
  • Joey Kazlauskas capitalized off a wild pitch to tie the game back up 6-6. Gabe Fales sent two Scots home off a single to left field to regain the lead (8-6). 
  • Tyler Wilson and Clark each batted in a runner to go up 10-6 in the sixth inning. Gianni Mercurio held the Cougars to zero hits in the sixth and seventh.
  • Fales singled to center field, taking two more Scots home (12-6). Fales then scored another run after a wild pitch (13-6). The Cougars made one final push and scored six runs to bring the game within one. 
  • Robert Dunkle sent Clark across the plate, gaining more cushion in their 14-12 lead. The Scots smothered the Cougars with three straight outs in the bottom of the ninth for the 14-win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Gianni Mercurio recorded his first win of the season from the rubber.
  • Gabe Fales had his first multi-hit game as a Fighting Scots and booked a career-high four RBI's.
  • The Scots are off tomorrow and then return to action on Monday, March 10 to play Mount Saint Mary's at 9:45 a.m. at NERP.
