Gordon College Women's Lacrosse ventured into Boston in stereotypical New England weather to play the Suffolk University Rams for the first time in Conference of New England (CNE) action. In a highly contested contest, the Rams were able to escape with a close 18-15 win.
For the Fighting Scots, Caroline Piorkowski paced the valiant effort with seven goals and two assists, Kaitlyn Mini booked three goals and three assists, Brooke Roberti contributed two goals and one helper, while Marializ Lopez, Hannah Rose, and Tillie Hutton each scored one goal. Kayla Davidson registered 12 saves, while Emma Darling had five ground balls and caused four turnovers.
Suffolk's Ally Colburn netted 10 goals, while Julia Dickinson added four goals and three assists.
How It Happened
- Piorkowski kicked off the first quarter with a goal just 29 seconds after Mini won the opening draw. Suffolk was able to net three goals before Lopez closed out of the frame with another Gordon rally (3-2).
- In similar fashion to the first, Piorkowski recorded the initial goal of the second frame, before Suffolk knocked in two straight goals within a minute span. Roberti evened out the scoring in the quarter after ripping one goal from Piorkowski (5-4). Mini fed Hutton for another Gordon score followed by four from the Rams. However, Rose wrapped up the second with an unassisted goal (9-6).
- Despite the Rams drawing first blood in the third, Mini once again won a draw before racing down the field to find the back of the net. Both Mini and Piorkowski registered two more in the third to bring the score back up to 12-11 in favor of the Rams.
- Mini knotted up the scoreboard less than two minutes into the fourth. Teammate Piorkowski continued on her offensive tear to score three straight, but the Rams were able to hold on for the narrow two-goal win.Â
