Scots Drop Heartbreaker To Colonels, 9-8

For their second to last home game, Gordon College Women's Lacrosse faced off against the Curry College Colonels at the Brigham Athletic Complex in Conference of New England (CNE) play. The Colonels scored a goal with just overall two minutes remaining to secure the narrow victory, 9-8.

For Gordon, Caroline Piorkowski netted a game-high six goals, while Kaitlyn Mini and Jocelyn Noyes each scored one tally. Emma Darling recorded six ground balls and caused five turnovers. 

Curry's Grayson Goolgasian dished out four assists and scored one goal, Grace Gosso chipped in two goals and as many assists, while Ava Doyle had two goals and one assist.

How It Happened
  • Piorkowski got on the board first as the senior capitalized off a free position attempt for the first goal of the game. The Colonels answered back with two straight tallies before Piorkowski netted her second of the frame to lock the scoreboard up at 2-2 heading into the second.
  • The Colonels held the edge in the second, outscoring the Fighting Scots, 3-1 to lead by a score of 5-3 at the break.
  • Down by three early in the third (6-3), Brooke Roberti found Noyes who made it a 6-4 game with 6:05 on the clock. Piorkowski continued to have a day as the senior once again utilized a free position attempt to bring the Scots withing on (6-5). Curry ripped in two more (7-5), but Piorkowski scored twice within 60 seconds to knot the scoreboard up at 7-7 going into the final quarter.
  • Curry went on top in the fourth, but the Scots roared right back as Piorkowski rattled home her sixth goal of the day to lock it back up at 8-8 with 7:24 left in regulation. The Colonels were able to slide a goal in in the final minutes to take the win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Caroline Piorkowski reached a new career-high in goals with six this afternoon, surpassing her previous milestone of five goals. 
  • The Scots head into Boston this weekend as they play the Suffolk University Rams at 11 a.m. in CNE play.
