Men’s Basketball Drops 73-63 Decision to Nichols

WENHAM, Mass.- The Gordon College men's basketball team suffered a 73-63 setback to Nichols Wednesday evening at the Bennett Center.
 
 
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Gordon grabbed an 11-6 edge before Nichols used a quick 8-0 burst to establish a 28-17 lead with 4:38 remaining in the first half.
  • The Fighting Scots trimmed the deficit to 30-26 with less than a minute left to play in the opening period on a straight-away trey by Tyler Nordstrom (Sterling, Conn.).
  • Both teams tallied a layup in the final seconds of the half as the Bison clung to a 32-28 edge at the halftime intermission.
  • Gordon captured a 36-34 lead with 16:44 on the clock as Isaac Jarvis (Concord, N.H.) banked in a layup.
  • Nichols claimed a double-digit advantage with 5:37 to go in regulation, 60-49.
  • The hosts cut the gap to 69-63 with 41 seconds left to play on a three-pointer by Brandon Swann (Venice, Fla.).
  • The visitors capped off the victory with a dunk and a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the contest.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Ryan Brooks (Dudley, Mass.) and Isaac Jarvis (Concord, N.H.) both scored 15 points and grabbed four rebounds.
  • Brandon Swann (Venice, Fla.) tallied 11 points off the bench.
  • Bruce McGuire (Bristol, R.I.) chipped in with eight points while Chiko Kalu (Queens, N.Y.) added eight boards and five points.
  • Gordon finished with a field-goal percentage of 35.2% and connected on 5-of-27 from beyond the arc.
  • Nichols shot 41.9% from the floor and 32.1% from three-point territory on the night.
  • Olivier St. Louis paced the Bison's balanced offense with 14 points while five others notched 10 points apiece.
