DAVENPORT, Fla.- The Gordon College baseball team endured a 15-13 setback to Emerson in its final game at the RussMatt Invitational Saturday.
THE BASICS:
Score: Gordon 13, Emerson 15
Records: Fighting Scots (3-7) | Lions (2-6)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Emerson captured a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.
- Gordon responded with four runs in the second to claim a 4-2 edge.
- The Fighting Scots tacked on a run in the top of the third inning to extend their advantage to 5-2.
- The Lions plated two runs in the bottom of the third frame to cut the deficit to 5-4.
- Emerson chalked up one run in the fourth to knot the game at 5-5.
- Both squads manufactured three runs in the fifth and sixth innings as the contest remained tied, 11-11.
- Gordon grabbed a 12-11 lead with one run in the top of the seventh.
- The Lions scored twice in the home half of the seventh inning to snag a 13-12 edge.
- The Fighting Scots battled back to tally one run in the eighth frame to level the score at 13-13.
- Emerson jumped ahead 15-13 in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run home run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Adam Gracie (Swansea, Mass.) finished 4-for-6 from the plate with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored.
- Aaron Ferreira (Fall River, Mass.) posted three base knocks, three runs scored, and two RBIs.
- Tyler Wilson (Lynn, Mass.) notched three hits, three runs scored, and one RBI.
- Gabe Fales (Middleton, Mass.) registered three RBIs and two base hits.
- Kevin Whalen (Lynn, Mass.) pitched four innings and struck out two batters in his second start on the mound. Michael Pelletier (Clinton, Conn.) threw one frame in his team-leading fifth relief appearance. Jacob Bettencourt (Attleboro, Mass.) hurled three innings and recorded five strikeouts in his third outing of the year.
