Baseball Sunk at Mass. Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass.- The Gordon College baseball team fell 21-4 at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Friday.
 

THE BASICS:
Score: Gordon 4, Massachusetts Maritime 21
Records: Fighting Scots (3-8) | Buccaneers (6-4)


HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Mass. Maritime exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first frame to capture a 5-0 advantage.
  • The Buccaneers added a run in the second to widen the gap to 6-0.
  • The home team produced seven runs in the third inning to extend its lead to 13-0.
  • Gordon got on the board in the top of the fourth, scoring one run to cut the deficit to 13-1.
  • Mass. Maritime plated a pair of runs in the fifth to stretch the margin to 15-1.
  • The Fighting Scots tallied three runs in the top of the sixth inning to trim the gap to 15-4.
  • The Buccaneers chalked up six runs in the home half of the sixth frame to push their advantage to 21-4.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Tyler Wilson (Lynn, Mass.) posted a pair of hits, one RBI, one run scored, and a stolen base.
  • Aaron Ferreira (Fall River, Mass.) notched two RBIs and one base knock.
  • Cam Wilbur (Dighton, Mass.) finished with two runs scored and one hit.
  • Josh Thiero (Piscataway, N.J.) tossed two in his second start of the spring. Austin Bush (Flower Mound, Texas) hurled two innings of relief and registered two strikeouts. Brayden Seaman (Methuen, Mass.) and Blake Coulthard (Las Vegas, Nev.) both worked one inning out of the bullpen.
 
ON DECK:
Gordon returns to action March 21 for a non-conference doubleheader against Anna Maria. The games will be played at Mount Saint Charles Academy in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
