NORTHAMPTON, Mass.- The Gordon College field hockey team absorbed a 3-0 loss to Smith Saturday in the opening contest of the Carly Newhof Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Smith scored once in the opening quarter to snag a 1-0 edge.
  • The Bears tacked on two goals in the third period to extend their advantage to 3-0.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Sarah Bourk (Barrington, R.I.) registered a pair of shots while Elizabeth Holden (North Hampton, N.H.) chipped in with one shot.
  • Haylee Briggs (Plymouth, Mass.) made 25 saves and Ella Haynie (Embden, Maine) added one save in relief action between the pipes.
  • The Fighting Scots managed three shot attempts while the Bears produced 40 shots.

Gordon will play in the consolation game of the Carly Newhof Classic hosted by Smith College September 6.
