Gordon College Women's Rowing raced on the Charles River on Saturday morning as they battled challenging conditions once again. The Fighting Scots competed in two events with two boats in each against teams from MIT and Boston University.
By The Numbers
- The women's 2x lightweight boat (LilyAnna Hopkins and Sarah Petrenko) and B boat of Mara Sell and Isabella D'Agostino battled intense wind through the first 1,000m in unprotected water before both boats were able to settle in after going under the bridge for the final 1,000m of the race. Hopkins and Petrenko put on a show late with a mature and clean piece to make up a lot of ground to finish just behind MIT (8:52.9) with a time of 9:02.6. Holding their own in the outside lane, Sell and D'Agostino claimed fourth place.
- In the V2 race, rookie Emily Soria shined in the boat comprised of Samantha Hansen, D'Agostino, Petrenko, and Hopkins took third place with a tight fight with BU who came in second. Gordon's B boat of Phoebe Henry, Sell, Emily Nerger, MacKenzie Peck, and coxed by Anna Dost landed in fifth place.Â
In a historically challenging weekend for the Fighting Scots, Gordon held their own against many of the top collegiate programs in the Northeast. This year, Gordon along with Bates were the two chosen guests invited by MIT.
For the blue and white's next outing, the crews are split as the open weight women's V4 heads to New Englands next Saturday while the lightweight doubles with compete on Sunday.
