Gordon College Men's and Women's Rowing traveled to Andover to take on Merrimack on nice flat conditions compared to last week.
The race started off the with men's varsity four (
Kimmy Stevenson,
Caleb Peterson,
Levi Lacoss,
Marty He, and
Aidan Lowther) where they led early before going back and fourth with Merrimack. Going into the final 500m the Fighting Scots were ahead by open water before the Warriors sprinted back to make it a tight finish. However, the Scots won by a tenth of a second (6:31.2).
In the women's varsity four comprised of Emily Peroria,
Victoria Maties,Â
Sarah Petrenko,
Samantha Hansen, andÂ
LilyAnna Hopkins led off the line and gained a comfortable lead on Merrimack where they were under stroking substantially. In the last 500m Gordon opened it up to an open water victory (6:52.4).
Coxswain, Hannah Twombly, as well as
Mara Sell,
Isabella D'Agostino, Maties, and Petrenko traded blows with the Warriors in the first 100m before slowly walking away in the second half of the race for another Scot win (6:53.1).Â
The women's fresh novice 4 coxed by Ivy Davis,
MacKenzie Peck,
Phoebe Henry, Hansen, and Hopkins, battled against two different varsity fours from Merrimack and secured the largest win of the morning, building a lead in the third 500m to power home the clean win (7:09).Â
Rookie Hopkins went head to head against a Merrimack veteran rower in a lightweight showdown to cap off the impressive morning for the blue and white. Hopkins led off the start and maintained a deck ahead to make it a full sweep for the Scots with her win (31.4).Â
Next up for the women is a race against MIT on Saturday, April 26. The men as well as some of the women's team will compete on the same day in Fall River, Mass. at the Northeast Collegiate Club Championship.Â
